Food Safety

To provide underpinning knowledge required to enable learners to safely handle all aspects relating to food preparation and delivery to clients and promote the safety and well-being of all clients who consume food and drink within the environment.

DESCRIPTION

By the end of the course, candidates will be able to:

  • Understand their role and legal obligations when handling food
  • Describe the symptoms and consequences of food poisoning
  • Identify potential contamination hazards
  • Explain the requirements for bacterial growth to occur
  • Understand the importance of both personal and environmental hygiene practices
  • Describe a range of ways to prevent cross contamination
  • Understand the importance of achieving and maintaining correct temperatures in both cooking and storing foods
  • Explain how to store food, maximise hygiene when handling food and disposing of food
  • Identify when pests are present in food areas
