End of Life Care

This course is suitable for all staff involved in providing end of life care. It has been compiled in accordance with End of Life Care Strategy 2008, Gold Standards Framework and Skills for Care knowledge set for end of life care.

To provide candidates with the underpinning knowledge required so that they can appropriately care for, and support, clients and their families during the end of life stages of their illness.


By the end of this unit you will be able to:

  • Explain what is meant by the term end of life care
  • Discuss their role in supporting people in end of life stages
  • Explain what advance care planning and advance directives are
  • Discuss what makes death a good or bad experience
  • Discuss what last offices are
  • Identify 3 other professionals they can involve in end of life care
  • Discuss people’s attitudes and fears towards death and dying
