Meaningful Activities

The aims of this course is to give candidates the underpinning knowledge to be able to support and assist service users in a care setting to participate in meaningful activities that maximises their individual skills, interests, health and dignity.


By the end of the course candidates will be able to:

  • Define the concept of activity
  • State the purpose of activity
  • Work with families to discover meaningful activities for people in care settings
  • Identify appropriate activities that aim to meet a person’s needs, interests and abilities
  • Recognise the difference between structured and unstructured activities
  • Set up the environment to encourage safe participation in activities
  • Break down activities into single steps or tasks.
